Our Decision Support Tools

EcoSecurities staff discovered early on that customised software tools are a valuable way to help support client's strategic and operational decision-making in a carbon constrained world.

Over the last 15 years, EcoSecurities staff have developed dozens of tools, some of which have been further developed for inclusion in EcoSecurities’ Cli-Mit Toolbox. These Tools grew out of specific policy and analytical challenges for which clients sought our help. The Cli-Mit Toolbox includes tools to support a wide range of corporate decisionmaking needs, as shown here:

• CliMit Market Analyser:
This tool forecasts international greenhouse gas (GHG) credit prices to 2012 based on client-specific policy scenarios. Based on a powerful database of sector-specific emissions reduction data, the model is user-friendly and requires as little as 15 minutes to run.

• CliMit U.S. Market Analyser:
This tool is being designed to provide insight into the U.S. carbon market under alternative policy scenarios. It will allow assessment of carbon prices based on a variety of scenarios involving national vs. regional and state-specific climate policies and targets.

• CliMit Navigator Programme:
This tool is a combination of software and expert-based support tools that support companies in being positioned for climate change policy. Through its benchmarking (Scorecard), dynamic strategy options (Navigator), and policy anticipation (Index) modules, the CliMit Navigator Programme helps companies position themselves for a wide range of potential climate policy and market outcomes.

• CliMit Business Planning Model:
This tool analyses the financial implications of user-defined GHG market entry strategies and portfolios. The model can be populated with “real” or “typical” projects, and expresses its results through profit and loss statements and balance sheets. The model speaks directly to the needs of corporate financial officers when being asked to evaluate GHG market entry strategies and portfolios.

• CliMit Mitigation Economics Model:
This database calculates GHG mitigation economics for more than 50 mitigation sectors, based on a variety of economic and sector-specific variables. These user-definable variables include project life, fossil-fuel costs, discount rates, and transaction costs. The model generates country-specific estimates of sector-specific GHG mitigation costs.

• CliMit Project Risk Analyser:
This tool uses Monte Carlo analysis to estimate the “expected value” of a proposed GHG mitigation project. Users are walked through the process of assigning risk factors and values to both conventional and GHG-related risks and economic variables. The model calculates the "expected real cost" of reductions from the project.
