EcoSecurities Appoints Simon Retallack as Chief Executive Officer to Lead its Next Phase of Growth
EcoSecurities, a leading global climate solutions company, today announces the appointment of Simon Retallack as Chief Executive Officer, effective 15 October 2026. Simon brings more than 25 years’ experience across climate policy, advisory and climate finance, and will lead EcoSecurities as it helps governments, corporates and financial institutions accelerate climate action. Simon will be based in London and will report to the EcoSecurities Board of Directors.
The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for global climate action. 2026 marks the start of a new Paris Agreement Ambition Cycle running through to 2030, with the focus shifting decisively from ambition and framework-setting to financing, implementation and delivery. More than 110 countries have updated their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Article 6 markets are maturing, and demand from compliance carbon mechanisms continues to grow. The latest global geopolitical challenges require greater coordination between the public and private sectors to accelerate the mobilisation of capital at scale and ensure climate and carbon finance can deliver impactful solutions around the world.
Simon takes the helm at a time of strong momentum for EcoSecurities. Building on its pioneering heritage in carbon markets, EcoSecurities continues to innovate in environmental and climate finance to help developing countries and corporations deliver their climate goals – from Article 6 readiness and investment pipelines across Asia, Africa and Latin America to structured transactions with government, compliance and voluntary buyers. Looking to 2030, EcoSecurities is well placed to expand this work and deliver measurable, high-integrity impact.
Simon joins from The Carbon Trust, where over 16 years he helped internationalise its work, building and leading its Latin America consultancy business – now serving clients in 14 countries, including the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and national governments – and founded its Net Zero Intelligence Unit. Previously, he led the climate change programme at the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) and was co-director of the Climate Initiatives Fund, which helped to seed-fund the Carbon Disclosure Project.
Pedro Moura Costa, Non-Executive Director, EcoSecurities Board of Directors, stated “On behalf of the Board, I am delighted to welcome Simon as EcoSecurities’ new Chief Executive Officer. Simon has an extensive track record of working with governments, multilateral institutions and global corporates to design and deliver net zero climate solutions, and of building international businesses from the ground up. His experience will be invaluable as EcoSecurities accelerates its growth, increasingly scaling carbon and climate finance around the world to translate climate ambition into tangible action.”
As part of the leadership transition, Pablo Fernández, who has served as CEO and Chairman, will remain Chairman of the Board and part of the Executive Team. He will also assume the role of Chief Technical Officer (CTO), leveraging his 25 years of international and carbon technical expertise to spearhead the development of innovative climate solutions and a continued focus on strengthening the quality, integrity and delivery of EcoSecurities’ climate project portfolio and advisory services. The Board would like to thank Pablo for his leadership as CEO and looks forward to his continued contribution in his new role.
“It is a privilege to be joining EcoSecurities at this pivotal moment. Every month that passes gives the world another stark reminder of the human and economic cost of climate change, and yet we are still mobilising only a fraction of the finance needed to respond at scale. Closing that gap will require us to accelerate the development of the next generation of climate finance and carbon market mechanisms, which earn and maintain the trust of governments, corporates and civil society, with high integrity and transparency at their heart. EcoSecurities is in a unique position to shape what that looks like, drawing on 30 years of pioneering experience at the forefront of climate solutions. I look forward to working with our clients, partners and the team to make EcoSecurities a defining force in that effort.”
