Job Summary

The Reforestation Manager will support the development and growth of one of EcoSecurities most high-profile global projects: the Indigenous Peoples Forest Restoration Project in the Province of Bukidnon Province in the Philippines. The project aims to restore up to 27,000 hectares of ancestral domain lands owned by Indigenous Peoples, restore the habitats of Philippine Eagle, and provide opportunities to Indigenous Communities.

This is a senior-level role to be based in Bukidnon, reporting to the role of Project Manager.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the planning, coordination and execution of a large-scale biodiverse reforestation project. Working with partners and project staff to ensure the effective, inclusive and timely implementation of all tasks. The following are the key activities:
    • Plan and oversee large-scale forestry planting operations, ensuring effective scheduling, coordination of field logistics , deployment of planting teams, and adaptation to seasonal and environmental conditions.
    • Lead and manage the reforestation project across its full life-cycle, from site selection and suitability analysis to site preparation, planting, and post-planting maintenance and monitoring.
    • Develop and implement reforestation and agroforestry strategies, and detailed work plans to achieve long-term restoration goals.
    • Monitor planting sites and evaluate performance, including survival and growth rates, using both field assessments and digital tools.
    • Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders, including local communities, landowners, government agencies, and NGOs to ensure inclusive and sustainable reforestation outcomes.
    • Coordinate and submit all requirements for DENR permits or regulatory approvals in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Prepare and manage annual operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and alignment with financial plans.
  • Set and track annual performance targets related to the reforestation activities and ensure all milestones and project targets are met.
  • Ensure all operations comply with environmental laws, health and safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Document key observations, outcomes and lessons learned to support adaptive management and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to project level strategic planning process by providing valuable insights and recommendations based on field outcomes and stakeholder feedback.

  • Able and eager to work mobile and remotely from time to time to monitor the project implementation
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree in forestry, biology, environmental science, or related fields.
  • Large scale reforestation or plantation establishment experience.
    • Experience managing the full forestry lifecycle, from site selection, seedling procurement, and site preparation through planting, maintenance, monitoring, and reporting.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of silvicultural systems and techniques, including site preparation, planting methods, pest/disease management, and stand maintenance.
    • Expertise in identifying and selecting appropriate native and site-adapted tree species for various tropical zones and reforestation goals.
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in local or regional language in Bukidnon Province.
  • Fluency (written and verbal) in English.
  • Demonstrated work experience in community-based forest restoration.
  • Ability to network and engage current and new stakeholders, partners, and Indigenous communities.
  • Flexibility to travel across multiple sites in Bukidnon Province.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software applications.

Desirable

  • Licensed forester.
  • Certified Pollution Control Officer and/or Certified Safety Officer
  • Familiarity with forest certification schemes (e.g., FSC, PEFC).
  • Local knowledge of stakeholders, as well as cultural, agricultural, and forest management in Bukidnon Province of the Philippines.
  • Carbon markets and carbon project development.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in large scale or commercial plantation, reforestation or  ecological restoration operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership rol
