Community Initiated Regeneration for Carbon and Livelihood Enhancement Project
The Community Initiated Regeneration for Carbon and Livelihood Enhancement Project composes of forest and landscape restoration in Zambia.
The Circle Project in Zambia is expected to have significant environmental and socio-economic impacts across 9,000 hectares of degraded land in Chifunabuli and Chipili districts. Key activities, such as Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) and tree planting, will help restore deforested areas and improve ecosystem health. These efforts are anticipated to enhance biodiversity, improve soil fertility, and increase water retention, contributing to climate change mitigation. The regeneration of forests and improved ecosystem services, such as water regulation and air purification, will benefit local communities while restoring balance to the environment.
On the socio-economic front, the project will introduce climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and alternative livelihoods, such as beekeeping, to diversify income streams and reduce dependency on unsustainable land practices. These initiatives will not only improve food security and agricultural productivity but also empower local farmers with sustainable land management skills. By fostering collaboration and building capacity within communities, the CIRCLE Project will promote long-term resilience to climate-related stresses and strengthen economic stability across the region.
